Why we built our own deployment cloud
Owning the path from git push to production made every Techive product faster to ship and cheaper to run. Here is how Hive Cloud works.
Every product we run — from Hive OS to Gubae — needs the same foundations: reliable deploys, HTTPS, backups and logs. For years we rebuilt those for each project. Hive Cloud is what happened when we stopped.
The problem with one-off servers
Hand-configured servers drift. Two apps that should be identical end up with different PHP versions, different firewall rules and different backup schedules. Every deploy is a small adventure, and adventures are not what you want at 6pm on a Friday.
What Hive Cloud does
Connect a repository, push, and Hive Cloud builds the app with Nixpacks or a Dockerfile, checks it is healthy, and swaps traffic over with zero downtime. Databases, scheduled backups and certificates are one click away.
- Preview deployments for every pull request
- Automatic HTTPS with Let’s Encrypt
- Health checks and one-click rollbacks
What we learned
Own the critical path, rent the rest. We did not write a container runtime — we built on Coolify, Docker and Caddy — but we own the workflow our engineers touch every day. The result: new products reach production on day one.
